medication free solutions to improve attention

Non-Medication Treatment for Attention

There are four distinctly different types of Attention Deficits (ADD/ADHD), each of which responds differently to medication.

Most physicians diagnose ADHD in 10 minutes or less before proceeding with treatment.

We are 1 of less than 10 offices in the United Sates that evaluates which type of ADD is present to be able to customize neurofeedback and other forms of biofeedback training the brain can work better on its own, resulting in improved attention.

We also assess how exercise, nutrition, sleep, and electronic use can be managed to help the brain work at its best.  At times, therapy can also be a useful tool to help develop new behaviors to replace old habits.

A Natural Path Proven to be Effective for over 85% of People with ADHD

Surveys of health professionals using neurofeedback to treat ADHD estimate that over 85% of their patients report improved ability to focus, regulate behavior, and decrease impulsivity when they train on a consistent schedule.  Most people can’t control the number of heartbeats they make per minute. With biofeedback training, they can learn to do so. Likewise, biofeedback also makes it possible for teach the brain to control its rhythm. When you train your brain with EEG biofeedback, it helps you learn how to become focused, calm, and to gain self-control.

"My son was failing three subjects in school, primarily due to attention problems. He was diagnosed with ADD and began taking a stimulant to help, but the medication was only slightly effective and had side effects that almost negated the benefits. Within 4 or 5 sessions of neurofeedback training, his attention problems started to turn around. After 2 months of training, his grades are now B’s, and his teachers report that he is retaining what he is learning.

He still has more training to come, but so far the results have been remarkable.  He is medication free and continues to improve his schoolwork. "

Biofeedback Conference (AAPB)

Biofeedback Conference

I recently attended the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) conference held in Austin, Texas. It was an excellent conference, with many informative and useful workshops. I came away from the conference with messages from two of the Keynote Speakers that I thought to be of particular importance for public consumption. What follows is a brief summary of those two:

Anxiety as a Contributor to Mortality and Ways to Combat It

One of the Keynote Speakers, Dr. Julian Thayer, has published over 250 research papers and  (more…)
