Chances are you already appreciate the mental and emotional aspects involved in playing golf. While the physical realm (i.e. swing, mechanics, conditioning, etc.) comprises the upper limit at any one time of one's playing potential, it is the mental and emotional realms which determines how close and how consistently we come to reaching that potential.
Performance = Physical Potential - Mental Interference
Physical potential is wherever you happen to be, at that moment, in terms of mechanics, conditioning, health, rest, nutrition, etc. You can only play as well as these factors will allow.
Mental interference basically deals with two general areas: focus and emotional stability. When focus and emotional stability are maximized, mental interference approaches zero and we perform up to our physical potential.
